Really cool reading

Kia ora

This week in reading we have been learning about making predictions.

My Learning Goal was making a correct prediction. I learnt that making predictions are an important part of reading.

Our create task this week was to make a cheat sheet for predictions.

Here is my Create. I hope you like it.

Comment what you have learnt from my post.

Treaty of Waitangi

Kia ora

This week at school we have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and what happened between Pakeha and the Maori in 1840. We learned about this because it is important New Zealand history. Here is some of the work i did

How can we be champions of peace?

How can we be Champions of Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are an Anchor, a ying yang, and a Koru.

These symbols represent peace because they each have different pasts and meanings all over the world.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Jesus. I thought this person was a champion of peace because he was in the bible a lot. https://docs.google.com/document/d/167hWX9fUSLDqCV0h1aDpmJW5pTnOVR7ZEQ8CPRrs6Dg/edit?usp=sharing

We also created a peace prayer book. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1VYonBPD2DG-wg3MsktKipGdErBiu6rkFOtqmzfBA9XU/edit?usp=sharing

I enjoyed learning about peace because I got to learn more about my religion when i did a biography about Jesus.

I learnt that if there was no peace in the world we would be very sad.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by spreading joy and happiness all over the world

Relaxing Reading

This week at school I had to make a fake news paper artical about all souls day and all saints day. It was interesting because I really enjoyed learning about the importance of each day.

Here is my newspaper:

Do you celebrate all souls day?

Science Blog

In Science, we have been learning about electricity. One of the experiments we did was called the buzzer experiment, to do this we had to put salt and water into a small container and then put two nails into the container and attach them to the buzzer. If we did it right the buzzer would start to make a quiet beeping sound.

Materials needed :

Small container

Salt

A large container filled with water

A large empty container

Small speaker attached to two small wires

Four nails (two iron, two zinc)

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that Ainsley and I would be able to make the speakers buzz.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because we put way too much salt in the water, which caused us to fail.

Here is a picture of Ainsley and I doing the buzzer experiment.

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing the buzzer experiment because I felt that Ainsley and I did pretty good with it.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that I should listen to the instructions and add less salt.

Something I found interesting during this learning was that I was able to make energy just from salt and water. Something I found challenging was adding the correct measurements of salt and water.

Have you ever made energy in a science experiment?

Magical Math Blog.

This week for math we have been working on Tree diagrams and using them to help us figure out different combinations for gambling and other thing that could use lots of different combinations.

Here  is my work:

This tree diagram was about the midwinter breakfast and the different options that people have of things that they can eat, E.G hot chocolate, pancakes, hot cakes, or sausages.

Reading blog

This week for Reading I have been doing work on how deep the earth really is.  I have read an article with my class and we have all been filling out forms about what we know, the reason for this is that my teachers are trying to get us to use summarizing in our work. To summarize means to sum up a sentence or piece of writing at transfer it into its simplest form. Here is the sheet I filled out.

I now know that there are four layers of the earth, the crust, the mantel and the inner core.

TRP launch evening

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that it is actually very important to be a resilient person and is is good for the mental health of ourselves and the people around us.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is an invite I made:

For the showcase evening I worked with Nia.

We decided to create jewelry and phone charms Because we both enjoyed making things with beads.

Here is my final creation:
